Does CBD get you high ?

Cannabidiol ( CBD) is one of over 60 cannabinoids or compounds found in the cannabis plant. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is also a cannabinoid.  The human body has cannabinoid receptors throughout which are part of the Endocannabinoid system.

CBD and THC are the two cannabinoids usually found with the highest concentrations in cannabis.   Cannabinoid receptors are concentrated in certain areas of the brain associated with thinking, memory, pleasure, coordination and time perception. THC attaches to these receptors and activates them and affects a person’s memory, pleasure, movements, thinking, concentration, coordination, and sensory and time perception.  This makes THC psychoactive or the ingredient in cannabis that gets you high.  CBD does not act on the same pathways as THC and in turn does not interfere with several psychomotor and psychological functions.  Does CBD get you high?  CBD actually blocks the high associated with THC.  CBD does not make you high and can counteract the high caused by THC.

The levels of THC and CBD in a cannabis plant depend on the strain.  The strain with the lowest levels of THC is industrial hemp.  CBD oil derived from industrial hemp has little to no THC in it therefore it will not get you high and is the best choice for those who wish to reap the medical benefits of cannabis without feeling “stoned”.
